Powai has a new Spot - A rooftop Punjabi Dhaba Themed Pub: The Turban Tales

Turban Tales is a Rooftop Punjabi Dhaba themed pub - a happening place with chic, modern and reinterpretation of Punjabi Culture and hospitality. With impressive cocktails and Mocktails and even more impressive ambience, Turban Tales feast you with most covered Punjabi Cuisines at attractive prices.

The ambience is set up totally like a Punjabi Dhaba. This place is amazingly furnished with Khaat style seating (The perfect dhaba style seating). They also have couches and Long stools where tables were made out of Tractors Bumper.
You also have a Bhopu(horn) at your table to call the waiters.

This place offers a perfect balance of flavours with desi Style cocktails and amazing decor and inviting Ambience overlooking a little part of powai lake, illuminated JVLR and IIT.

The serving size is set on the idea of Individual portions and prices are set accordingly. Being more of a drinking Joint, this gives options for light eating as well as individual portions let you order your own favourites dishes. So you don't have to compromise if your friend has to eat Dal and you want some good butter chicken.

The best part is the reasonably priced alcohol and their unique concoctions of mocktails and cocktails which is influenced by Punjabi Style Serving in Big Glass. I will definitely recommend - Love form Southall & Smoke of love.

They mainly served Punjabi Food with a twist so that it can meet the local expectations and taste. For starters, they have some impressive Achari Paneer Tikka, Kurkure Paneer, Chatpatey Honey Aloo and Tikka momos for vegetarians and prawns koliwada, Tikka supreme, lamb roti kebab, Patiala fry chicken for non-vegetarians.

For mains, I have tried Angrezon Da Chicken Tikka and Mummy-di-Dal that is served with complementary coin paratha or your choice of bread. I loved the Mummy-di-dal, accompany it with a lacha paratha or a Butter naan and enjoy simple pleasures of life. The biryani was quite decent and a little dry, not one you will commonly find in Mumbai.

Overall, I will recommend this place for the Dhaba style Experience with Punjabi Music, Inviting Ambience & Amazing Concoctions of Mocktails & Cocktails with adecent fare of North Indian Delicacies.

Gurukripa, Powai

Open sky, soulful music, Live IPL, Fresh breeze and multi-cuisine specialities - this can define my last visit to Gurukripa.

Gurukripa is one of the oldest restaurants in Powai and will give you a pleasant surprise - Don't go by its name, it is actually a casual dining place.
I went there for dinner last week and they have Live IPL screening on the rooftop with amazing food and soft music. This place has not got the attention it deserved but still it was running full on a regular weekday.
This place has  three seating sections  and the open air one is our Favourite. The servers were wearing the IPL jerseys and were alert & humble. I must mention Mr. Sandeep Shetty - my server who guided me through menu and suggested me some great dishes.

We Started on a sweeter note with a tall and refreshing glass of Mango Blossom - a relishing blend of fresh mango pulp and mango ice-cream. So it's summer and there is  no way that we were going to miss this seasonal speciality.

This restaurant has the widest variety of Chicken dishes prepared in Indian, Mugalai and Chinese style and a vast menu with all usual Indian and Chinese dishes and some fusion dishes - a subtle combination of different ingredients.

One of them was the Chicken ghee roast - tikkas with crispy crust and a mindful flavour of Ghee. I know many people who hates even the smell of ghee and I challenge you, if you didn't fall in love with this beautiful combination.

Stuffed mushrooms -spinach filling sandwiched between button mushrooms - a little spicy but the one for Mushroom lovers. The crunchy cheese stuffed Mushroom are also amazing.

Chicken Rahra - Boneless Chicken in chicken Keema Gravy base topped with fresh cream seemed best with the garlic naan and Butter lacha Paratha. There was absolutely no complaint regarding the food and it was worth the money spent.

We ended our dinner with 'Gadbad'?? - a scrumptious  combination of strawberry, vanilla and mango topped with crunchy dry fruits and fresh fruits.

The other signature dishes include - grill chicken black pepper dry, spring rolls, chicken in oyster sauce, exotic vegetables in hotgarlic sauce, malysian rice , chicken pot rice, banjara kebab, chicolate eclair,Panchauti Mela(sabzi), crunchy mushrooms(cheese stuffed and DEEPFRIED) and mutton Rogan Josh.

PS - This place is worth a visit and no doubt from last 40 years they are carrying the legacy.
