Gurukripa, Powai

Open sky, soulful music, Live IPL, Fresh breeze and multi-cuisine specialities - this can define my last visit to Gurukripa.
Gurukripa is the perfect place to unwind after a busy work day and If you are looking out to go to lonavala or outskirt Dhaba to enjoy & have a peaceful dinner - then Gurukripa is a place which will give you a peaceful and blissful dining experience.

Gurukripa is one of the oldest restaurants in Powai and will give you a pleasant surprise - Don't go by its name, it is actually a casual dining place.
I went there for dinner last week and they have Live IPL screening on the rooftop with amazing food and soft music. This place has not got the attention it deserved but still it was running full on a regular weekday.
This place has  three seating sections  and the open air one is our Favourite. The servers were wearing the IPL jerseys and were alert & humble. I must mention Mr. Sandeep Shetty - my server who guided me through menu and suggested me some great dishes.

We Started on a sweeter note with a tall and refreshing glass of Mango Blossom - a relishing blend of fresh mango pulp and mango ice-cream. So it's summer and there is  no way that we were going to miss this seasonal speciality.

This restaurant has the widest variety of Chicken dishes prepared in Indian, Mugalai and Chinese style and a vast menu with all usual Indian and Chinese dishes and some fusion dishes - a subtle combination of different ingredients.

One of them was the Chicken ghee roast - tikkas with crispy crust and a mindful flavour of Ghee. I know many people who hates even the smell of ghee and I challenge you, if you didn't fall in love with this beautiful combination.

Stuffed mushrooms -spinach filling sandwiched between button mushrooms - a little spicy but the one for Mushroom lovers. The crunchy cheese stuffed Mushroom are also amazing.

Chicken Rahra - Boneless Chicken in chicken Keema Gravy base topped with fresh cream seemed best with the garlic naan and Butter lacha Paratha. There was absolutely no complaint regarding the food and it was worth the money spent.

We ended our dinner with 'Gadbad'?? - a scrumptious  combination of strawberry, vanilla and mango topped with crunchy dry fruits and fresh fruits.

The other signature dishes include - grill chicken black pepper dry, spring rolls, chicken in oyster sauce, exotic vegetables in hotgarlic sauce, malysian rice , chicken pot rice, banjara kebab, chicolate eclair,Panchauti Mela(sabzi), crunchy mushrooms(cheese stuffed and DEEPFRIED) and mutton Rogan Josh.

PS - This place is worth a visit and no doubt from last 40 years they are carrying the legacy.

Coco Food Truck, Andheri(W)

This all day cafe provides a nice break from the boring food. The place has got some brilliant and interesting concoction of Italian, continental, Indians and home made Mexican cuisines. The place is done up beautifully and have two seating options - inside and outside one - the Chic ambience with  shades of yellow colour to the decor and the tingy lights give it a feel good factor.

The serving size is set on the idea of individual portions. Since portion size is small it is preferable for people to order individual dishes, which in turn makes it a costly affair. The portion size is good for a person like me(I have a good Appetite)

The main highlight is their wide array of menu and their wholesome meals and you will not stop at one.
I loved their continental meals - chicken with wild mushroom sauce is amazing. It has got a nice and well flavoured Curry served with succulent and juicy  pieces of Grilled chicken.

Coming to Indian section, the chandni chowk ka Fried chicken surprised us because this is the first time we had some Fried chicken on the menu. The chicken was delectable and full of flavours.
We were not impressed much by the Mexican.

The Tex Chicken Tacos were decent and the filling is tangy and gave a bit of raw taste.

Overall a good place to catch up for a meal alone or with friends. And with the wide array of dishes

PS - Though the name is food Truck but their is nothing like that remind or relates to Food Truck

The new hot chocolate concept is the chocolate sticks that we can dip, ready to be sunk in warm milk to give you a sinful hot chocolate indulgence. The sticks are available in 3 flavours  - Dark Chocolate, Cinnamon and Masala Milk.

The Dark chocolate was our favourite and MasalaMilk will not fail to impress you.

Dark Chocolate - Hot chocolate Stick
A Quick Fix for Sinful chocolate Indulgence

It's apparent that chocolate is a highly personal treat. The texture of these Chocolates was creamy and smooth. These gourmet chocolates give a  perfect balance of flavours and sweetness - apt for the hardcore chocolates fans to the casual eaters.

Next comes the Chocolate covered biscuits, the Chocolate covering was delight over light and crispy biscuits.

Keen to try their signature White Pot and other Chocolates. A good value alternative to all the commercial brands and stereotype handmade Chocolates.

Well the length of my post surely says Harsh Chocolates falls in my palate perfectly.

Located on the old mumbai pune highway,it is a perfect place to chill and relax for all the travellers and other patrons.
Food is suprisingly of very good quality and super delicious. I remember my every visit from the first one to the last time when  I had lamba chicken, full butter chicken, garlic naan and Romali Rotibpapad since we all were hungry even after having these dishes we ordered chicken biryani which is the best.

While i mostly feast on starters and kebabs and they have mind blowing varieties in that and accompanied with a nice white sauce and the sublime green chutney. As the mainstay is North Indian - Punjabi cuisine and desi chinese, i had have some amazing tandoori chicken, tikkas and butter chicken at this place.

This place has never disappointed me with their food but sometime the waiting time is not at par. I guess it's the cravings and the HungerPangs that make time crawl before food is served.

Not to forget, the friendly and the courteous staff and the owners who will make sure that you have best of the times.
As The menu is quite varied, the staff will guide you through the menu and recommend some good dishes according to your palate
Few of my favorites here are -
Their awesome Chutney
Butter Chicken and garlic naan,
Tandoori chicken
Chicken cheese chilly kebabs , chicken jungali kebab, lambha chicken(Punjabi- Chinese) and butter chicken biryani.

PS - Gluttony is not a sin at Sheetal Da Dhaba and there was not a single time when I didn't overeat at Sheetal. And I should not forget to mention  @jasronak who introduced me to this place.

The Bombay Canteen, Lower Parel.

This place has a classy and quirky look with a formal ambience. This review has been due for a longer time  and now I am happy to finally round it off. As I am writing this review, my mouth is watering just thinking about the food.

The yellow rickshaw at the entrance with high Ceilings and bricked wall give it an old Bombay look. As it is tucked in kamla mill compound you can except some corporate crowd at day time and on weekends this restaurant runs full and you might have to wait a little to get a table (They dont take  reservations).

Honestly speaking, I got confused with the menu as it contained things which I generally avoid eating at home -arbi, baingans, the legendary ALU Vadi which I am avoiding since I was born. and some which I eat very often being a punjabi - Gobi, parathas, sarson ka saag etc etc..
As I was with one of my hard core Vegetarian friend - the non-veg was out of bound for me..

It took me a little while as I was going through the menu again and again in search of something that is different and I can order.

We started off with the Egg Kejriwal as it seemed simple yet it was an  amazing affair. The thepala Tacos and kutchi Dabeli were good and something innovative.
For drinks I have called for a Passion Fruit Ice tea and it was refreshing and brilliant.

Every dish is unique and has a whole different taste - just like the varied culture of our Country. The staff was courteous and patient enough and guided us through the menu and recommend some of the good dishes. The service is very efficient and well organised as they knew the servers has to spend a good amount of time recommend and guiding guest through the simple yet complicated menu.
Speaking about the main course
The crispy Alu Vadi's dunked in a subtle and lightly spiced Dahi Curry and served with a side portion of Kandha poha

.

I missed their Kothu Roti with the pumpin Gravy but sadly they have removed it from their menu and  was Disappointed that i couldn't try their "Sea food bhel" as i sworn upon my best friend that i will try this as i visit this place.

The Gulab nut and chai popsicles were the perfect end to this gastronomical fare.

PS - Old world  charm gets complimented very well by the contemporary rich indian Cuisine - Might not be everyone's cup of tea but this is the place if you are looking for desi food with a twist.
